A day spent in baking

If you are as confused a personality as I am, then chances are you consider baking and caking, opposite concepts but the fact of the matter is that baking and caking are, like two faces of the same dice. Baking is cooking in heat through indirect exposure to oven while caking is a process through which a sticky surface hardens on the crust...well, that’s how the dictionary defines it!

Now, in spite of all the baking training courses available, I decided to make a cake at home. Now, reading a recipe book, I began this tragic saga. The cake partly burnt and was all flossy and squishy and ….words fall short describing it.  Going through the whole process of mixing and beating and heating, the end product was, I said it earlier, a tragedy.

Perhaps taking a cue from people like me, so many cooking institute in India have been opened. These cooking institutes teach the students all the knick-knack of cooking and baking. There are also various pastry making schools which teach students the alpha and omega of cake making. Right from cake decorating classes to cake sculpting, everything is taught here through hands on process.

Cake decorating  classes are something which are quite a new concept for many people in India. But, of late it is gaining a huge popularity amongst the masses.

So, coming back to my story, although my baking story was a complete dud, still hope floats for me. The whole process was a learning experience, and definitely a soothing process. I read somewhere that baking as such is a calming process for an individual and does improve one’s concentration, I do believe this whole baking a cake incident was surely a learning experience for me.

I plan to bake more efficiently and hence join a baking school to improve my dexterity.  I am considering Academy Of Pastry Arts, India, one of the premiere institutes which teaches cake making and pastry making  skills to its students.
